The Relevance of Corpora to German Studies

Abstract

The volume discussed in this paper presents examples of recent work in various areas of German studies by English-speaking scholars working on computerized text corpora of German. The paper covers key terms in the field, the adaptation of work on English, semantic prosody, lexicography and grammar, language teaching and learning, translation studies, critical language studies, literary studies, the way corpus linguistics alters our perspective on language and finally describes the papers in the corpus volume itself.
